Hello out there! My name is "Sunny" and I'm a teacher in an inner city district in Michigan. I teach in a self-contained ESL classroom with second language and native English speakers. I like to say that ALL of my students are English Language Learners because the native English speakers are still learning this complicated language too :)
Staying in one grade very long doesn't seem like my "thing". I have taught the following grades (in order): 4/5 split (2006-07), long-term 5th, then full time 2nd (2007-08), 4th grade (2008-09, 2009-10), 5th grade (2010-11) and I'll be back in 2nd grade for 2011-12! [Let me just point out, I am not a glutton for punishment -- these moves have not all been voluntary! *wink*]
Teaching is not just a job to me. It's my passion. I found my real passion for education when I started teaching ELL students. They bring so much joy to teaching for me. I can't imagine doing anything else with my life except maybe writing books some day. When I am not teaching, I am probably thinking about teaching in some way, shape or form. I often come up with teaching epiphanies upon waking from sleep -- it is honestly when I get most of my brilliant ideas (and how I reach solutions to issues that have plagued me).
I'm a mom of 3 girls referred to here as "The Oldest" who is a high school junior and "The Littles" who are in 4th and 3rd grades respectively. Occassionally you'll also hear about The Husband whose name should be pretty self explanatory. :)
